Georgia Bulldogs Brock Bowers, Jalen Carter and Kelee Ringo Get Prestigious Honor

ATHENS - Three of Kirby Smart and Georgia Bulldogs were named to a prestigious pre-season award team, which was announced Monday. 

Gerogia DB Kelee Ringo, Georgia TE Brock Bowers and Georgia DL Jalen Carter were named pre-season Walter Camp All-American First Team members. 

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.

The trio of Bulldogs is coming off a 2021 national title. Fan Duel lists Georgia as one of the favorites to win the 2022 national title. 

Ringo is most known for his interception return for a touchdown in Georgia’s 33-18 win over No. 1 Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Title Game in January. Ringo ended 2021 with 34 tackles, a sack and two interceptions. 

Carter made the game-changing play against the Tide - blocking a field goal attempt. The next play Georgia RB James Cook exploded down the sideline to set up a Zamir White touchdown. Carter was a lead blocker for White on his touchdown. 

Bowers scored a touchdown late in the game to put the Dawgs up eight points in the fourth quarter. He ended 2021 as UGA’s leading receiver with 56 catches for 882 yards with 13 touchdowns. He added four runs for 56 yards and touchdown. 

Georgia is set to open the season in Atlanta against the Oregon Ducks. The game is expected to be a top-ten matchup.
