UGA coach Kirby Smart Comments on George Floyd's Death
ATHENS - UGA coach Kirby Smart made a statement Saturday on twitter following the death of George Floyd.
Floyd died after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by a police officer’s knee in an episode that was recorded by an onlooker on video, inciting condemnation and protests.
“I firmly stand against racism of all kinds,” Smart said in the statement. “I realize that I feel this differently, but I am hurting for the young black men on my team. I am hurting for the black men on our staff. I cannot imagine the agony, grief and fear that our black communities feel today and every other day. I do not have the answers, but I am committed to moving with purpose and being part of the solutions. We have to make a change. We have to be better.”
Smart has been the head coach at Georgia since 2016.
